چکیده

In this paper, we provide polynomial-time algorithms for different extensions of the matching counting problem, namely maximal matchings, path matchings (linear forest) and paths, on graph classes of bounded clique-width. For maximal matchings, we introduce matchingcover pairs to efficiently handle maximality in the local structure, and develop a polynomial time algorithm. For path matchings, we develop a way to classify the path matchings in a polynomial number of equivalent classes. Using these, we develop dynamic programing algorithms that run in polynomial time of the graph size, but in exponential time of the clique-width. In particular, we show that for a graph G of n vertices and clique-width k, these problems can be solved in O(n) time where f is exponential in k or in O(n) time where g is linear or quadratic in l if an l-expression for G is given as input.

Computing Graph Polynomials on Graphs of Bounded Clique-Width

We discuss the complexity of computing various graph polynomials of graphs of fixed clique-width. We show that the chromatic polynomial, the matching polynomial and the two-variable interlace polynomial of a graph G of clique-width at most k with n vertices can be computed in time O(n), where f(k) ≤ 3 for the inerlace polynomial, f(k) ≤ 2k + 1 for the matching polynomial and f(k) ≤ 3 · 2 for th...

Fully polynomial FPT algorithms for some classes of bounded clique-width graphs

Parameterized complexity theory has enabled a refined classification of the difficulty of NPhard optimization problems on graphs with respect to key structural properties, and so to a better understanding of their true difficulties. More recently, hardness results for problems in P were achieved using reasonable complexity theoretic assumptions such as: Strong Exponential Time Hypothesis (SETH)...

Counting Euler Tours in Undirected Bounded Treewidth Graphs

We show that counting Euler tours in undirected bounded tree-width graphs is tractable even in parallel by proving a GapL ⊆ NC ⊆ P upper bound. This is in stark contrast to #P-completeness of the same problem in general graphs. Our main technical contribution is to show how (an instance of) dynamic programming on bounded clique-width graphs can be performed efficiently in parallel. Thus we show...

A Unified Polynomial-Time Algorithm for Feedback Vertex Set on Graphs of Bounded Mim-Width

We give a first polynomial-time algorithm for (Weighted) Feedback Vertex Set on graphs of bounded maximum induced matching width (mim-width). Explicitly, given a branch decomposition of mim-width w, we give an nO(w)-time algorithm that solves Feedback Vertex Set. This provides a unified algorithm for many well-known classes, such as Interval graphs and Permutation graphs, and furthermore, it gi...

Model Counting for Formulas of Bounded Clique-Width

We show that #SAT is polynomial-time tractable for classes of CNF formulas whose incidence graphs have bounded symmetric clique-width (or bounded clique-width, or bounded rank-width). This result strictly generalizes polynomial-time tractability results for classes of formulas with signed incidence graphs of bounded clique-width and classes of formulas with incidence graphs of bounded modular t...
